Drinkable Art

I tend to enjoy a lot of modern art that I encounter, although my understanding of it isn’t as deep as the artist may desire, it still conjures up an internal feeling and response. This is the exact topic that artist Hannes Broecker has expressed with his drinkable installation.

“Each wall frame is filled with a different adult beverage, and the varying colors create a display that any critic could no doubt wax rhapsodic about for days. The difference here though is that stacked in the middle of the gallery are glasses, and the visitor walks up to the various ‘pictures’ and fills their glass from a tap on the bottom.” – DVICE

Sky Interface

We have a set concept and are now working on a demo video for our Sky interface project. I have recently discovered some videos that hint at the interactivity for our concept.

“The technology uses a sensor that monitors the position and properties of an object within five feet of it, so not only will you be able to point at the screen to guide the cursor, but your gestures and hand signs will register as well, and control an on-screen object’s position and depth.”

It’s exciting that our futuristic concept is slowly becoming reality, but these videos could take away the ‘Wow’ factor from our concept. Luckily we have expanded upon our idea quite massively, in ways I won’t speak of until we have released our demo video…coming shortly.

Upon further search, I found someone had made another topic of our group discussion a reality. We spoke of a massage interface that was aimed at couples to add an element play. Our idea was to have content projected onto the skin, such as marching ants, so the other user would have to squish them by massage. In the video they have strapped a vest with pads onto someone and plugged it into a Playstation.

Seems a little violent for a sensual massage! I prefer our idea.

Power Glove Vs Wii

Is it me or is this just an early Nintendo Wii…

Nintendo Power Glove Ad

It’s a little saddening to see that the ‘marvellous new generation of gaming’ is just a recycled idea, but then… what isn’t. I guess we can just take pride in the advancement of technology. Now we’ve seen the video concept of the power glove, let’s take a look at the reality of it.

I’ve been looking around this thing called ‘The Internet’ and have stumbled across a video that triggered off quite a rewarding thought.

Here’s the thought that popped up;

“If someone can master an interface as intricate as a keyboard and as well as demonstrated in this video, there is no end to what an interface designer can create!”

Portfolio Trail

After a while of portfolio research, I decided it would be a good idea to document the journey, so here we are.

I feel that my own style is somewhat cartoony and perhaps childlike which I feel has caused me to be drawn toward these styles of portfolios. One of my favourite portfolios that fit into this category is that of Psyop, the website has such a unique style and has a distinctive layout, which reflects their style of work. The unique name and logo help the company stand out, which ties into a video they produced as their ‘anthem’ which demonstrates the process of their design and their aims. One of my favourite videos is the MTV HD advert.

First up is FULLTANK, a well designed website, very simple and easy to use. All the important information is available on the first page along with a show reel demonstrating some fantastic work, my personal favourite is ‘Zune’.

Another incredible portfolio named ‘Favourite Color’. The website is simple and clean, but that isn’t what attracted me to it. The use of 3d animation and visual style is what stood out to me. The work produced is fantastic and has inspired me to explore 3d computer graphics.

This Wrigley’s video is exactly the kind of thing I would like to make in 3d! Simple and amazingly cute characters, well animated, in a human environment.

I think it’s time for some cinema 4d tutorials!
